Memorial Day, 2021

Petals on the River – resuming in 2022

On the Sunday before Memorial Day, the Bothell Historical Museum has traditonally held an event honoring friends and relatives who have passed away. We read their names and drop flowers from the bridge over the Sammamish River in the Park at Bothell Landing.

In the past The Bothell Florist and Yakima Fruit Market have generously donated the petals as well as families bringing their own. A flotilla of flowers on the water is a beautiful sight, but in 2020 and 2021 the COVID-19 pandemic prevented us from gathering together for the ceremony.

In 2021, we displayed in the parlor window of the Hannan House a list of people for whom monetary donations to the museum were made in the past year. Included was the permanent Memorial Board, which usually hangs in the living room, on which the names are listed, some new this year.

We resumed our Petals on the River tradition on May 29, 2022. Click here to see photos and an account of the event.
