Petals on the River, Sunday, May 24, 2026
On the Sunday before Memorial Day the Bothell Historical Museum holds an annual event dropping flower petals off the bridge over the Sammamish River in the Park at Bothell Landing in memory of friends and relatives who have passed away. A flotilla of flowers on the water is a beautiful sight and reminds us not to forget our loved ones. Everyone is welcome. Some bring their own flowers and we provide some donated by The Bothell Florist. After the brief ceremony, visitors may join members of the Museum at the Hannan House for a visit to see the Memorial Board. This event had been canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic but resumed in 2022, and has continued every year since.

2026 Spring Social, Saturday, March 28: Our Spring Membership Meeting took place in the Lytle House in the Park at Bothell Landing.

At the March 28 meeting, our Museum’s Executive Director Kenneth Doutt presented “Behind Barbed Wire: A Bothell Family’s Story of Incarceration During World War II.” We are honored to be a part of telling the story of our community members, the Kanaya family. Pictured is Kiyoko Kanaya, who attended Bothell schools in the 1930s.

Holiday Tea: Each December, the museum is adorned with late 1890s era decorations and hosts a Holiday Tea using our historic china. After two years without it, the Holiday Tea returned in 2022 in the Hannan House. We continued the tradition again in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Cookies abounded and guests enjoyed good food and good cheer! Photos of the 2025 Tea can be seen by clicking here.

2025 Fall Membership Meeting, November 1
The meeting, our Fall Social, took place Saturday, November 1, from 1 pm to 3 pm in the Lytle House, in the Park at Bothell Landing. We met our new Executive Director, Ken Doutt. Five board members were elected for a two-year term. Our guest speakers were Ron Green and Ann Aagard, who presented the history of Bothell’s two oldest churches, the Methodist and the Lutheran. Members signed up to help with decorating and serving at the December 7 Christmas Tea.

Hannan House Celebrated 130 Years!
Our birthday celebration was Sunday, August 13, 2023, from 1 to 4 pm in the Park at Bothell Landing. It was a perfect day to dress up in 1893 fashions, bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the lawn at the Park at Bothell Landing, play some old fashioned games, and have popcorn and a birthday cupcake.

Civil War Headstone Dedication:

IN MEMORIAM
Remembering Bothell Pioneer Civil War Veterans Robert Campbell and John Rhea: The Bothell Historical Museum sponsored the ceremony dedicating headstones for two early Bothell pioneers, both veteran soldiers of the Civil War. It took place on Sunday, August 13, 2023, in the Bothell Pioneer Cemetery. Click here to see photos and an account of the day.
2024 Spring Membership Meeting:

The Spring Membership meeting took place Saturday, March 25, from 1 pm to 3 pm in the Lytle House, in the Park at Bothell Landing. Richard Heisler was our special guest speaker, talking about the Rhea family–their story and their role in Bothell history.

BOTHELL 4TH OF JULY PARADE:
After two years without a 4th of July Parade due to the pandemic, the Bothell Independence Day resumed in 2022. Bothell Historical Museum volunteers walked and drove several honored guests in the parade. Photos of the event can be seen by clicking this link.
The city hosted the annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast at the Lytle House in the Park at Bothell landing, as the fire station where it had been usually hosted was still closed for renovation.

Bothell’s Civil War Legacy at the Bothell Library:
Richard Heisler, the founder of Civil War Seattle, gave a presentation about Bothell’s Civil War Legacy on August 3rd with the Bothell Historical Society & Museum hosted by the King County Library System at the Bothell library. Pictures and a brief account of the event can be seen by clicking this link. A subsequent presentation by Richard took place last year on November 8 at the Northshore Senior Center. On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, Richard again presented this fascinating story in a “History Pub” gathering at McMenamins Anderson School’s Haynes Hall.
