Petals on the River, 2022

A little rain could not stop the ceremony.

Each year, the Sunday before Memorial Day, the Bothell Museum hosts a special memorial event, Petals on the River. Monetary donations were made to the Bothell Historical Museum this last year in the names of eighteen people who have died, recently or in the past. Their names are on the Memorial Board hanging in the Hannan House at the base of the stairs. New names added this year included Mark Backstrom, son of Jeanette Backstrom, long time member of the museum; Sharron Dimmitt, president of the museum board; and Susan Ericksen, great-granddaughter of Bothell pioneer Gerhard Ericksen and the youngest child of the late Bud and Pat Ericksen. People gathered on the new bridge over the Sammamish River. From there, they dropped their flower petals and those donated by The Bothell Florist into the river and watched them float colorfully downstream.

Museum board secretary Jill Keeney read the names of those honored by donations.
Petals were dropped to the river to float away in memory of those who have left us.
