This G.A.R. float was designed by the Women's Relief Corps for the 1908 Bothell 4th of July Parade. Left to right on the float: depicting liberty, justice (blindfolded) and American independence (behind the unidentified driver) are Gladys Hannan, Hannah Staples as Liberty, Alta Elliot and a blindfolded Marie Campbell as Justice. The letters G.A.R. stood for Grand Army of the Republic, a reference to the U.S. Army (the North) during the Civil War. The G.A.R. fraternal organization was a veterans' group and included the Women's Relief Corps, their auxiliary unit.
